Feeling hot

Summer! We love those warm days, but even here in Alberta, it can get HOT! Over the last few summers, Edmonton has seen some extreme weather. Have you ever wondered what happens if your pet's session is scheduled and we find ourselves under a heat warning? Here’s what you need to know:

Rescheduling Due to Heat:
Just like when it rains, we will reschedule your pet’s session if it’s too hot. Even though I schedule most of my outdoor sessions during the later part of the day, temperatures can still be unsafe. If this happens, we will discuss alternative options:

  1. Early Morning Sessions: We might move the session to early morning before the day heats up.
  2. Postponing: We could push the session out by a week or two until the weather is cooler.
  3. Studio Sessions: If an outdoor setting isn’t essential, we can switch to a studio session.

Why We Reschedule:
Your pet’s safety and comfort are my top priorities. Extreme heat can cause heatstroke, dehydration, and other health issues, especially in young, elderly, or brachycephalic (short-nosed) breeds.

Tips to Keep Your Pet Cool:

  • Walk Early or Late: Avoid walking your pet during peak heat hours. Early morning or late evening walks are best.
  • Stay Hydrated: Ensure your pet has access to fresh water at all times.
  • Cool Environments: Keep your pet indoors during extreme heat. Use fans or air conditioning to maintain a cool environment.
  • Signs of Heat Stroke: Watch for excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, or collapse. If you suspect heatstroke, move your pet to a cool area and contact a vet immediately.

Upcoming Weather:
We've already had a week of extreme heat, and the next 10 days look to be the same. Plan accordingly to keep your pets safe and comfortable.

By taking these precautions, we ensure a fun and safe experience for your pet during their photo session, regardless of the weather. Stay cool this summer!

If you see an animal or person in distress, please stop and help them.  You might be the only person advocating them.
