Books

I thought it was time for a "get to know me" post. Like most people I have a number of hobbies but my number one hobby is reading!  I'm not even sure at this point you can call it a hobby because I do it every single day. It is really more like a habit. Can't stop, won't stop!  There are worse habits to have. It's part of my morning ritual, my evening ritual, I do it when waiting for clients, airplanes, medical appointment etc.  Basically, if there is a slow time in the day, I will open my Kindle and read a few pages.  And sometimes...I create the slow times just so I can get back to the story. Shhhh.

I love to escape into the worlds the authors create and become immersed in the characters.  I read a few genres but crime/mystery/psychological thrillers are my first choice.  What I love about reading on my Kindle is that I can explore new authors.  Read new releases, classics, best sellers and $1 dollar Kindle specials.  I have discovered some amazing stories for minimal cost. When I find a series, I am over the moon.  Whether there are 4, 12, or 20, when I find a series I like, I run with it! It is devastating when you get so into a series and then it ends.

I am on my 2nd Kindle in 13ish years.  You know you read a lot when you can literally burn out a Kindle. It takes hundreds of books to do that, in case you were wondering.  2022 was a record setting year!  I read approximately 127 books last year.  I usually average about 85-95 books a year.

Some of you might be thinking wow, that is a lot of books.  Wouldn't having a library card or sharing books with people be a smarter, more economical way to read?  And yes, you would be correct but I don't mind buying books. It supports the writers and sometimes I do like to go back and reread some books.  My husband and I share the account and we will often read the same books.  I also have a bit of a germ thing with second hand books.  Lol.  I am actually a little bit of a germaphobe.  No, this wasn't created in the chaos of the last couple of years.  It was there long before the pandemic.

Here are a few books that stick out in my head from the last year:

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab

The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
